Funny, you're right. Braking hard in the normal direction could cause a chuck to unwind, in the same way that trying to turn in reverse would.
Both my Harrisons have a screwed spindle, I'd certainly prefer camlock or the L0 method of chuck retention but I don't expect to have problems, short of doing something daft. Turning in reverse is a big no I'd say along with really fast starts/stops but being sensible should be fine I think. There must be a lot of machines out there with screwed spindles!
