Cant beat real ale. I've been to a bike rally in The Shetlands for the last 5yrs called the The Simmer Dim. all the ale is brewed by an ace guy called Sonny who has a brewery called Valhalla on Unst, the most northerly Brewery in the British isles. Brews 6/7 ales and everyone is nector
I will be back over there tomorrow to alter a few things he wants changing then he has to clean everything down think he is hoping to get a brew on this weekend so looks like being mid April before it is ready for sampling. The guy that is starting the brewing also has the Cobble.
Got a call last week the micro-brewery that I was working on a few weeks ago the set-up had not been designed properly and the "kettle" was not condensing.
I was asked if I could extend the tank by 2ft in height to give it more head height and would hopefully help the liquid to condense and get the required spacific gravity, so headed back over to Kelso took some sizes and rolled some 3mm stainless sheet split in half.
Cut the top off the tank using skinny cutting discs and started tack welding the belt to the main body. Once this was all tacked up offered the top and repeated the same procedure.
Now for the H&S bit one man inside holding a mash hammer against the tack welds another outside belting them with a 4lb hammer "quasi modo offered to help here" ( I do wonder how they would expect you to get around that one, not just for the noise but also for the impact of the beating with the hammer!?) after this was done time to weld the inside seams then the outer seams were done p.s. there was extraction used from the 2" outlet on the bottom of the tank using a Stubs fume extractor and all man holes were fully open.
You would like his Pale ale Terry bit like a stronger tasting Deuchars I thoroughly enjoyed the Porter stout had a taste of each after finishing on Friday night.
