Hello people, first post on here, but been lurking about for a little while...
About to purchase my first welder, working on bicycle frames and building trailers for bikes. So mainly working with fairly thin steel tubing / angle iron.
I've been told by a few welding shops that I should learn TIG for this kind of thing, but my budget is fairly limited and I've done a bit of MIG in the past, so I think I'm going to stick with that.
Currently thinking of a Clarke 151EN, for the following reasons...
- Want to try gasless welding, but have the option of gas in the future, may well have to weld outside now and then as workshop space is an issue.
- Want to be able to run it on a normal 13amp plug, I know I'm pushing it with 150amp machine... Should be ok though?
- Clarke seems like it's got a good reputation in the 'hobby mig' range?
Just wondered if anyone had experience with cycle frame welding in particular, or any words on the whole TIG / MIG option?
Cheers!
