Any van lorry where you could take off the engine cowling inside the cab for any work at the back of the engine, best ones for me the bedford CF 2.1 opel diesel and the big merc 608D
I agree least you could identify the bits you were looking for.Old cortina, capris, escorts. Doddle now I look back at it.
i saw a wideline norton featherbed with a rover v8 once, lingered a bit to talk to the owner but never turned up.
...Stalled one mile down road.
Never started again
Ecu fault - NLA. Scrapped for £85.
Really liked it tho!
I remember my dad changing the clutch on his SII from inside the cab
I had the same problem in mine - it was a loose fuse.
Same era as my Hilux pickup which is very similar mechanically so just as easy to work on, mind you apart from routine servicing I haven't had to do much work to it because of that "solid 90's jap engineering" where stuff just works and works and then works some more.Toyota Surf: you can almost stand in the engine bay to service it!
No need to Jack it up to do an oil change, grease the prop shafts, change exhaust etc etc just crawl under it. No DPF no EGR anymore, good solid 90's jap engineering.
this one by chance
my mate had a mk2 camper he didn't think they were that easy to work on, he thought the new king pins were a little tight to get in so he fitted them using a sledge hammer he never knew they had to be reamed out, he put it back together and couldn't turn the steering off to the breakers yard for a new front axleLOL...owning an early transit was a great intro into welding, long before forums were invented
What a silly billymy mate had a mk2 camper he didn't think they were that easy to work on, he thought the new king pins were a little tight to get in so he fitted them using a sledge hammer he never knew they had to be reamed out, he put it back together and couldn't turn the steering of to the breakers yard for a new front axle
what,? with that by-pass hose.
You've never done a clutch on one then?
I seem to remember a line in the Haynes manual about that little b*****r of a bolt at the bottom towards the bulkhead which implied it was a pig of a job!!!! Can't remember the wording exactly though!
There was an article I read about a chap that "rebuilt" his smashed up 2cv into a motorbike in order to escape from a desert. Takes some beating.

Any car you know inside out probably helps
