I snapped off a couple of glow plugs in an Iveco 3.0 and stupidly tried to drill and "easy-out" them. One got a broken cobalt drill stuck, and in the other one the easy-out snapped off flush. Nightmare.
I ordered up a selection of tools to attack this with, and today I SUCCEEDED!
I will try to get pics tomorrow, was too busy stressing out about this job all day.
It took 4 x 5mm TCT tipped drills, 2 x 4mm grinding stones, 1 x 4mm carbide end-mill, 1 x 6mm carbide burr, along with eventually the normal broken glowplug removal tool (Sealey).
Tomorrow will be cleaning up the threads and attempting to keep any swarf out of the combustion chamber and fitting the new plugs.
The new plugs are getting fitted with a small smear of copper grease on the threads and very lightly tightened as I never want to have to do this again.
Oh and I am throwing out all my easy-outs. I will never use one again.
