I mostly work with metric fasteners on the ship.

Anyway, thoughts, ideas

Looking at your ongoing home projects, as above, pullers, pry bars, bearing and seal drivers, maybe an induction heater. Need any measuring tools (micrometers external or internal, large calipers, straight edge, surface plate, height gauge)?

What do you need in your garage that could conceivably be used occasionally on a boat?

^^ Induction heater is a good shout.

Is this a "use it by the end of --/--/-- or lose it" type deal, or open ended thing. More time to think is better.

Bought these. My Wera drivers have done me 5 years service and are still going but looking a bit sorry, snapped one (my fault, leant on the hex with a crescent) so happy to have more. And ratcheting spanners.

How about, a set of crowsfoot spanners. Large flare nut spanners.
4 way angle spanners, both open ends the same size, but with one end at 30 degrees and the other at 60degrees, rather than the standard 15 degrees on a normal spanner. All are very useful for hydraulic pipes and fittings.

Half moon or S shaped spanners, for awkward bolts

another fo GYS induction heater, (or the Kiwi equivalent) friend who runs Landrover garage just got one, and i have serious tool envy.
Seeing how quick it can heat up an inner bearing casing on a shaft was bloody amazing.
The inner race just fell off, none of that grind, beat, pull nonsense

When I worked on big boats, you could fix anything with a selection of bacho shifters (cheap ones were float tested) and a selection of hammers.

The purists would cry but we used an extra long Britool 19mm as a pry bar yesterday and a ratchet as a hammer!

Nowt wrong with that, it's just employing the third law of engineering.

I remember being actually taught how to tighten or slacken nuts with a hammer! All in the days before stretching bolts, jacks etc….

I often use a pair of Knipex Alligator grips and a Wera screwdriver as 'hammer and basher' to tighten up loose swa cable glands the monkeys leave loose
