So I was given this trailer a few years ago from a workmate as it was taking up space in his garden.
Since then, I’ve replaced the vw axle/hubs/wheels and it’s proven quite useful to have around the house.
Please excuse the poor paintwork, but it leaves it that much less likely to get robbed. Anyway, following my efforts last year replacing the axle etc. it seems it still tends to collapse on one side with any sort of load applied. That is, the shackles on one side collapse, leaving it lob-sided, ofttimes with a tyre rubbing.
… the last pic shows the collapsing side.
So, isolating as I am, I’ve decided to tackle it and get it straight and useable, if not quite pretty. I’ve ordered four and two of the following:
…. The plan being to cut off the old hangers and reinstall the leaf springs correctly. This I plan to do by up-ending the trailer, cutting off the existing hangers, and fitting the new hangers equidistant from the tow-hitch.
Any advice would be most welcome
