Nightmare of a day trying to get through to ESAB, got through in the end to a guy whos been really decent and down to earth.
Explained the Parweld Pedal issue to him, he tested a machine in house and called me back. Now, similar issue to the parweld, but not as bad. Process is to unplug the pedal, set machine to desired Max Amps (100 for example). Plug pedal back in, now the machine is locked to 0-100amps. Still a pain - But, this does mean the torch is not live, nor is gas being wasted. Nor do i have to pick up the pedal and put it down.
Now, heres the interesting part, he said their torch (with the pot on) over rides the panel, so the amperage control is solely on the torch, so i asked, what would happen with a normal, black handed torch, no pot - he said the amperage would be controlled on the panel - as you would expect.
So i asked him, if the pedal has no pot....whats locking the panel out when the pedal is plugged in....he paused for a few seconds, and he must of clicked....What a cock up he said.
I mentioned how the Yanks modify the pedal by bypassing a wire so to "Unlock" this feature, and control the panel with the pedal still plugged in - my worry of having to unplug the pedal every time, is the longevity and reliability of the plug, after being plugged in and out several times a day - not going to last long is it? My second worry is would modifying the pedal wiring void the warranty - to which he replied it "it would not"
So, hes contacting the boys in the states to see what the crack is. it seems absolutely bonkers!
