Hi, being new to welding I want to ask if zintec steel is ok to use, been told yes and no so I'm not sure, was told it give off harmful smoke.
Any one advise me on this please
Grind as much off where you can around where you will be welding, use a gas with a higher CO2 content (such as Argoshield Universal, keep your head out of the fumes and work in a well ventilated area
proper zintec is ok to weld without any prep its only an electro plate welded loads of it, if you can see a crystal like "flake" in it its galv and so a much thicker coat.
its a bit thick, depending on application. Most car body is either 1.0mm or 0.8mm. That stuff will work though you just have to make sure the metal is flush before welding to avoid any steps in the panels.
Thanks I wasn't sure if the steel was different as it says model engineer.
The metal is for a 1958 morris minor and reading about it seems most of them use 1.2mm for most repairs, so I was just going by that
Sorry I posted up wrong link was ment to be 1.2mm not 2mm lol
