Your thoughts on well-covers

I don't need access, @gaz1 , but I do want to be able to see the water: just because, really. We have other wells and cisterns for practical purposes.

Yes, that's the stuff. Same as the circular ones in "onoff's" post.

Didn't bother welding a ring around it as it was flush with the brickwork at the top of the well

Its not hard to make up a cover with heavy flat sections. I knocked up the one below to cover a sediment pit in the middle of a gravel carpark, something similar would do the job. Made in two parts because it was kin heavy.

Locally, I can get 6mm or 8mm diameter rivets, in either 20mm or 40mm lengths. What thickness flat bar did you use?

20x5 bar plat, 8mm rivets
