Hey there ,
I'm just curious to know about your daily/weekly routine while working in the welding life , I mean it's clear that everybody here wake up , have breakfast and then straight to the factory-shop-whatever , but what about the rest , or maybe about all those weird things that only we crazy welders-carpenters... do during the day .
Personally I wake up at 6:15 am , probably I struggled to sleep because I was thinking about work , I have a breakfast while listening news from tv , then I brush my teeth ( and let's forget all the other 'tactical operations' done inside a bathroom ) , then I have a look at my beard and I say to myself ' Should I cut it today ? Mmmm , no , I don't have time now , I'll do it tomorrow ' - and my beard keeps on growing , my mother says I'm looking like a mujaheddin .
I dress up my Armani welder clothes , and after 20 minutes I'm at the shop with my dad .
We turn on lights , machines and computers , in the past months it wasn't unusual to hear my dad ( sitted in the office ) swearing to his slow pc , but now he got a new one so .. no swearings ( don't worry , they are coming later in a way or in the other ) .
When everything is ready , we start to produce that lovely workshop sound : welding , grinding , machining , loading/unloading trucks .. blasfemies are back if problems come out ( wrong/impossible drawings from designers , emergency requests from customers , latecomer suppliers , the end of world .. ) or just to encourage ourselfs , if you are not listening noises from our shop is because we are closed in the office , busy with cad designing , quotations , emails , phone calls .. or solving all the problems mentioned before ...
At 10:00 we have a break , most of the time , maybe , probably , hopefully .. .
Then we stop for lunch at 12:00 ( ladies and gentlemen , yes we do have lunch ! ) .
Afternoon is a copy and paste of the morning .
Back home at 6-6:30 pm , most of the time , maybe , probably , hopefully .. .
I try to stay healthy so I spend 45 tremendous minutes at our homemade gym ( 3 times per week ) , my screaming feet and legs do always appreciate that - till 7:30 pm approx .
Shower , dinner and sometimes .. back to work . I mean I do not go back to the shop but I like to bring home the 'papers' when required , so drawings , printed mails , requests of quotation ... personally I like to do that , I stay on my desk , relaxed and quiet , no computers or tablets or phones , just a pencil and a calculator .
At 9:00 pm I quit and I spend a couple of hour watching Youtube on tv , and guess what kind of videos do I watch ? Welding , machining and videos of other people around the world doing approximately what we have done all day long .. or dirtbikes videos , it depends .
Repeat this carousel from monday to saturday ( or even sunday when required ) and that's our week .
Even if I'm joking a bit , I have to say I'm damn lucky because I LOVE what I do , works are always different , new challenges everyday , I'm still young and day after day I learn new things .
Every day is a new day , literally .
I'm addicted to my job , I cannot stay far from our shop for too long , and the satisfaction for happy customers , or new customers acquired , well done jobs , new machines coming in the shop ... is priceless . We do know we will never get rich , but even if we don't have money ( ... the money we should have , because italian government steals from us almost 60% of what we earn through taxes ) , we can say we are already 'rich' .
What about you ?
Cheers
