Yet another welding bench

The novelty of working on uneven trestles has worn off, I made a welding bench at the weekend.
I wanted something sturdy that would cope with a wallop

Lovely job! You weren't messing around, were you - that'll definitely "take a wallop", or two. But what's going on the top?

Hi Joe, there's nothing going on top so I can move around it and clamp things using the cross pieces.
I've got a smaller workbench for fiddly things.

looks sweet. what are the dimensions? looks big from the pics anyway!

how did u make sure the channel was all level and true? i often find channel is not very good for being straight!!

looks a good idea, much better than my 6'x4' 1/2" plate bench and then using tressels as extensions if i do anything bigger!

I cut the channel on a big cold saw so the ends were bang on, when I welded it I clamped some plate to get the top flanges as flat as possible.
You're right though "parallel flange channel" isn't really parallel.

I used 20 odd metres of 6" pfc, about 12' by about 6' and waist height.

The floor isn't quite flat, I made adjustable feet to get it level.
