Military transports (not Para or Tac.) have rear facing seats...

I think the last UK military transport with backwards seats was the VC10 and that was a leftover from the civilian passenger days.
Tristar, C17, Voyager, are all forward facing. All the helicopters and Herc are sideways (old Sherpa van style) not sure about A300M but I think it's like the C17.

I thought the A300M was rear facing? Whatever we were herded on to after being searched for pork products and porn on the way to Basra had rear facing seats...
C130k/J and C17 have para seats, C17 seat modules can be put into the rails either way round, dependent on risk assessment - unless flying out of KIA, in which case binding straps are acceptable

Isn't Sellafield run by the French now and Springfields (Preston) by the Yanks? I'm not sure that either of them do stuff now that is really dangerous like they both did in the past; part of our dying nuclear legacy. As the British AGR reactors have not got many years left now, I wonder if Springfields has already made and stockpiled all the fuel they will need? I believe we've also got a sizable stockpile of plutonium. I saw a headline somewhere that Boris is proposing to raise the total number of warheads we keep from (IIRC) 220 to 260. I see we just had a destroyer sail between China and Taiwan.

Of course, we can all look forward to the new French-designed nuclear reactor at Hinkley coming on stream....eventually; did they solve the problem with the casting of the pressure vessels or just convince themselves that it was tolerable?

All our nuclear fuel comes from a different place. AWE do the weapons grade stuff, sella field are just waste processors

I guess in rear facing the seat has to be strong enough forward facing the harness does. It’s a 400M too … :-)

It's not a harness, just a lap belt - thinking about it, the seat orientation could be changed, there were medivac / casevac flights where the seats were removed for the stretcher frames to be fitted, some of the seats were turned to face the casualties so why not all of them if required?

Don't we also have huge quantities of depleted uranium hexafluoride stored away, left over from bygone times. The hexafluoride is particularly nasty, corrosive and volatile.

I’ve worked at the place where they concentrate it. amazing operation. still going, infact expanding as they have found of way of enhanced purification and recovery

I had friends who worked at both Sellafield and Springfields, all of them "retiring" very early .

Springfields (BNFL) “merged” with Westinghouse some years ago - despite BNFL being the larger partner they have somehow come to being run from the states with Westinghouse being the controlling influence
They still have some other stuff on site like the National Nuclear Laboratory that’s nothing to do with the reprocessing part (technically there’s obviously some common interest but it’s run as an entirely separate business unit).

I think Sellafield is still mainly run as a government site, but I’ve only been there a couple of times so I’m not 100% sure.

I've only seen it from a distance, that was enough for me it looks grim. Why did they change the name from Windscale was it because of the cock ups and contamination associated with it?
