Year old discovery sport - New discs pads & drive shaft <6K

Just had my Disco sport in for its first service with less than 6K on the clock. Noted a slight graunching noise from the near side front & asked the garage to check it out. Front & rear pads changed along with rear discs. They then decided the noise was from front driveshaft & as not in stock car had to stay in overnight.
All done under warranty so I can’t complain, but doesn’t say much for parts suppliers quality control.

Sounds like a typical fitter with a bad case of cognitive dissonance, just gone on a changing spree at the manufacturers expense after having convinced himself of the problem. It was probably a small stone stuck in the caliper

I doubt driveshafts would be noisy - more likely a CV joint.

There shouldn't be any thing wrong with it at 6k miles.

should have bought Japanese, why does W.H.O., NATO and others drive Toyota.......apart from the cute, querky series 1, they were always cxxp......hard to work on, always leak oil and a rough ride to boot........refuse to work on them now along with air cooled VW's and anything after 1995.....and where I live there's plenty of work......

Glad it got fixed, having had 5x discovery3/4's all from new over the past 12 years I have had my fare share of mechanical issues including new engine at 5k miles! always got it all fixed so not complaining. Took one of the discos outside warranty and got bit with a proposed bill of 6.5k for TC issues so walked over from the service desk to sales and chopped it in there and then for another swore from then on would never go outside warranty again with a LR. Slight issue looming in that the current D4's runs out in Sept and there is no equivalent replacement for it on the market :-( Have tested all other 4x4's and we just don't fit. We really don't want a commercial based car but it may well end up that way. We cancelled our D5 order as the dogs don't fit in it ! :-(

Yes but Jap stuff is horrible imo

When I bought my Disco I was in the £4-6k price range, and without exception every Jap truck i looked at had massive problems and/or mega miles. Most of them had severe rot on the chassis

I dont understand where all the problems are , they are not my choice of car but swmbo,my son and sisterinlaw all have RR type things and dont get any problems at all . Swmbo is not kind to hers and since new has only had service items and tyres. Still a massively popular 4x4 that seems to outsell all its rivals in the class so they must be doing something right. Personally I still prefer my mitsumushy delicious and if I wanted a 4x4 tank I would try a find a decent v10 diesel towrag

I had an issue with my Disco 3 when under warranty, alarms indicating a suspension fault. It went back about 3 times, new compressor etc. a real ball ache. I got very bored, looked on the D3 forum and found that nine times out of 10 it was an intermittent connection on the loom between front and back. I took it back to the dealer and told them that if they don't stop using me to bleed LR dry I'll go somewhere else, it was fixed in minutes.

D3 warranty extension was about 1200 quid per year a few years ago whereas Landcruiser was about a third of that. All because LR can't stop dealers playing games. I thought Tata would have got this sorted by now.

I now use a local garage, not an LR specialist. If I have an issue I do a bit of research on the forums, print it out and hand it to them when I drop it off. Works a treat, the D3 is now 12+ yrs old and still going strong and no longer costing a fortune to run, expensive yet, but not eye-watering.

Yes, I think that was the final conclusion but the back discs were changed after being described as “corroded”, in <6K?. I think if I were the car manafacturer Id be having strong words with my brake part suppliers.
