Just saw this link on another forum, thought you guys might like to see how a 10,000 ton Liberty ship was built in 22 days, serious welding!

Lot of pre-fab going on there - fascinating find.

Does anyone know anything about the weld failures those things suffered from? Checked it out (on wiki) but their explanation seems slightly out.

Amazing stuff, 22 days to build a ship. How long does it take these days? and aren't some of those tubular components on the foredeck upside down?

Also dont forget the brave men who sailed on these things in the North Atlantic, especially the ones who went down with them.

The building record was actually 4 days 15 hours & 29 minutes, that site has many tales of heroism such as the liberty ship that took on a german surface raider & though hopelessly outgunned fought it to the end resulting in both ships going down. Brave men indeed.
