wp-17 lens for an unskilled amateur?

I tried, and failed to sand all the crud* off my torch's gas lens, so need to buy a new one.

Im very new to welding, so cant even say i need it for welding [x] job...

What's a good, all round, for a 160amp DC machine, using a 1.6 collet?

There are lots of online suppliers, just search for wp17 Gas lense,
Or go into a welding suppliers and ask them there.
Without going into the ins and out of Gas flow patterns and volumes, which Id have thought would be for super critical work,
a gas lense is a gas lense

Whats the crud your getting on your gas lens, mine stay clean ???

You cant go far wrong with a small set of cups 5,6,7 and 8 are what I use most.. Have some spares in case you drop a hammer on one

Generally its when dirty material spits and blobs jump into the ceramic and sticks to the mesh,
wrecks a couple this way, can happen if theres traces of zinc or other crap there.

Try using ordinary collet body fittings until you get the hang of it, you don't have to use a gas lens. I've heard of people using stainless wire wool inside the ceramic as a makeshift gas lens substitute, don't know how well it works but standard ceramics are less bulky than lens ceramics so might help in tight spots.

I've been using s/s wire wool for years.
Far superior gas flow and can be made for any size ceramic.

Can't think of a down side.

Im sorry - ive used the wrong terms, and so asked the wrong question. Its the pink ceramic bit that ive made a mess of by getting spatter.

Ive seen that the ceramics are cheap enough to buy all the sizes - so im guessing i should just fit a mid-sized unit and see how i go?

No 8 gets me through most things I want to do.
