If you've got a clear sky Mars and Venus are really bright tonight!
Mars top left and Venus bottom right of the moon. Fascinating stuff.

Thanks for clearing that up! I was out with the dogs and saw them, just thought they were odd and didn't remember them being there or that bright. That's explained that one

Had to go and have a look, it's clear as a bell out there. Mars looks like it's flickering.

Just got back in and checked on sky map - the eldest (5) was adamant it was the north star and wouldn't listen to me when I said north was the other way

I didn't notice mars though, I have another look

Last night, out with the dog, we saw 2 shooting stars.
Looks like the sky is busy.

Just been for a look at them. A bit of cloud cover but could still see them. Very interesting, eventhrough a set of 7x42 binos. Pal has a proper scope might give him a ring and see if he is going to have a look

It was only a bob when we were kids and when we hadn't got a bob left we used a 5 rupee out the coin collection on the mantlepiece.

Neptune is very close to Mars for the next day or three. It's too dim to see with the naked eye, or binoculars, even, but a half decent telescope would allow it to be seen. They're below the horizon now, but Uranus is visible with a telescope, around 30 degrees above the horizon to the south west at this moment (21.00hrs).

I had a good view of Venus this afternoon; at sunset the moon was up and Venus looked like an LED headlamp
