As said above, would offering to work there as a volunteer for a few days help them see what you can do?
When I'm looking at moving to a new job / starting a large project working somewhere new I sometimes arrange to go as an unpaid volunteer for maybe 2 days so I can meet the people and they can see me. It gives me a chance to see if they are people I want to work with/for, and it gives them a chance to see how I work and if they can train me to do new things.
Then we have a talk about what they want me to do, and I let them know what I won't do for them (I don't like heights etc).
Sometimes I then thank them and explain why I don't think their job would suit me (I turned down an interesting job at a nice farm because they started work at 6am !), sometimes they decide not to offer me a job. Good luck

I was always around heavy engineering and in the past my own maching jobs were passed around to the lads....happy to pay cash for jobs....
Could always use a metal lathe but never a MILLing machine.....
So asked if I could get some instruction....Nothing doing there....
So stuff it, went out and bought my own.....not everyone can do it but that suited me.....

Can you afford to buy a lathe and mill, even a wreck will get you started.....
make stuff for other people...farmers and the like will always want stuff making.....
Start small and hustle......you dont have to take money for payment, ifthings are hard take some cheese or chickens as payment.....
anything just get started.....

Having employed my own workers it's quite difficult to train and make a profit....
especially in these difficult times.....

to add,
I now live in quite a poor country, work and training is very similar to you in Italy...
very few young people here locally...they have mostley left and gone to Athens for jobs and training...or even further away.......
my plans is when the new workshop is built find an interested youg'un, male or female and train them in my well equiped workshop....
when I make money so will they.....
I want to pass on some of my skills before they are lost to the dust of time........

I've already humble said that I've never touched a lathe ,but if he makes me a quiz about he will be surprised...

So say that you know what is a Lathe, instead. You're not just showing humble, you're competing against you staying silent about your qualities and discussing only your disadvantages...

Do you really expect him to struggle to know what you really are able of?

You should show yourself as a solution to his problems, not as another problem he will have to deal with!

We had a driver on our 7.5 ton van for 7 years before it was discovered he hadn't even passed his car test. That caused a few ructions.

Ask him if you can get in on the odd day to learn new things. I got my first job by doing this, I worked the whole summer holiday for free

As others have said by all means approach him and offer to work for free for a trial period so you can both see if you can work together. The logistics of the employee problem can be managed if you come to an arrangement of you invoicing him a token amount for say cleaning/maintaining some of his machinery daily. That way his expenses/risk can be easily managed. If he doesn't go for that forget it, neither party will be happy and he probably doesn't want/need an apprentice.

You should be able to find suitable equipment secondhand to get you started with a home shop and self learning - even if it means looking further afield and shipping by pallet starting with relatively small kit. Or borrowing a trailer, putting a tow hitch on your car and picking up bigger kit.

Don't get me wrong, Memmedu. You seem to be a very nice guy, so afterwards I am feeling not so well for having been bothering you that way. The point is all the "********" I could read and rewrote above remains worthy, for it should encourage you to examine things from the point of view of the employer.

Should you shift focus, I think you should be able to find a way to achieve your goals, according to one of the many suggestions above, or something else. For what's worth, I've been once suggested to go and stay in the place as long as I am recruited.

If I were in your situation, I would sit and relax and dream that I have been recruited. Then, when confident enough, and full of this feeling, I would go for it and act as if it was obvious that I'll succeed. Sometimes it works, really.

Only some of the people replying here have hired and fired others for their own operation. I had a team of 17 in my company, 50% were great, 30% were Ok and 20% took up 80% of my time with their idiocy. I must have gone through 40 people even to get to that level so I feel I can speak for the "Boss"

- I would hire you in a moment, unless I need a PhD bio chemist, a good attitude is worth a lot of qualifications and experience.
Hire for attitude, train for skills. With the right attitude you can acquire the skills in less than half the time. In fact if you walked into my operation back then (and a few similar people did) then I would find you a job even if I did not have one - safe in the knowledge that one of the 20% would be doing something stupid enough to get them instantly fired pretty soon.

I'm not even thinking about , just trying to do homework , studying about machines, tooling , inserts type ,their functions.
Trying to learn as much as I can from home while waiting .
I wouldn't be an heavy weight behind ,but at least know enough to make things easier to learn.
I know that it's something new that I can't learn without daily practice under a good teacher.
But theory would help little bit

I think to have taken what you want to say .
I just have to be myself without bothering too much ,watch , listen and understand what they try to teach me .
Give everything I can .
But I still concerned ,I don't know I would not be under their expectancy

I'm sorry I am not qualified to speak for the boss - as noted - but as the father of a fairly successfull son I'd say: "don't care about being under expectancies or not, just do it."

Just keep doing your best and care about your atitude. I 100% agree with what Wightsparks wrote.

This state of mind might for make a favorable decision in your recruitement process.

This made me laugh because is so true!
I was blessed with my team of 20 project managers & tech consultants. No whiners, a-holes or idiots. I had issues to sort out but I was happy to fix things for them (HR stuff) because they made my life easy with their "let's get on and do it" attitude :-).
But my colleague in a different area had a total bunch of wasters, all qualified for their roles but mostly useless, bad attitude or both, spent all his time with HR issues & poor performance cases.


Edit- when I first started doing tech tests for prospective employees, if they passed the test my boss would ask me "if we employ them would you be happy to sit next to them all day", if the answer was "no thanks" they didn't get the job.

Yea, I soon learnt that the best new employees were referrals/recommendations from my best existing employees - and I ignored their concerns about a new hire at my peril!
