Worth scrapping insulated copper wires?

the scrappies rub there hands if u take it in with the insulation on they make more money and pay you less . then feed it in to a granulator the bare copper goes down a chute in to a 50 gallon drum and the plastic granules in to another and both sold seperately

Place I go to has only recently penalised you for burned wire but its still a lot better than the price for insulated wire. Car wiring looms are not worth burning though as a lot of the fine stranded wire gets burnt away.

I got what was left of the car shell scrapped today. And 2x bin liners worth of car wiring loom. Plus some loose copper pipe.

£156 for all. So I guess the insulated copper wire was worth very little and probably a waste of time removing it for what it's worth. But at least I know now!

A mate of mine used to spend his lunchtimes stripping Ali to weigh in
Radiator end tanks off, heads stripped of all steel or inserts, heater matrix etc
I weighed some stuff in last week
Irony aluminium was £205/ton
Clean aluminium was over £800/ton

Now I understand why he did it

I'd bought a hand cranked wire stripper - Chinese - off eBay for about £50 few years back. Has large grooved wheel with serrations that grips the flex, top is a knob that winds down a cutting disk (bit like on a pipe cutter). Just need to set it to right height to just cut the PVC and not the copper strands - as copper wire splinters bit uncomfortable when separating the PVC from copper. Will do the fine strands inside telecoms cable right upto 2cm diameter. Can remove the hand crank handle to attach a drill / motor to speed up stripping of reels of wire. I spend a few minutes most days pulling through bits of wire - reckon it's more than paid for itself many times over. A simple 3 core lead from a domestic appliance has a decent amount of copper in it.

mine will crush any twisted twin and earth cabl;e or single double coated tails up to 35mm in seconds can change to a slitting disk for armoured up to 50mm 4 core easily and fast. it cuts faster than i can feed it in. i normaly cut cable in to 6 foot lengths because its dangerous if you get snagged with the wire going in . realy needs a foot switch for safety fitting

I read the other day, somewhere online, that there is £22.00s worth of copper in an ev charging lead, Where I work we have just had 4 double chargers installed, how long before theses become a target.
