Think ill have to pop up to ikea, I should of just went in yesterday on my way past from collecting that filing cabinet!

They are a bit tall but I can modify it or the shelves to accomodate.

I have a very old steel drawer unit, about 4 ft high and 5ft wide. Has multiple drawers, and it came with dividers to separate drawers for small fasteners or anything along those lines. Only ever seen one for sale, but I guess its the type of thing to be found at closure auctions of old industrial premises? About the best thing I have ever had for storing smallish parts, and if its possible to find one shouldnt be a lot of money...........

They look like the kind of thing you might pick at in an ex-MOD auction, this chap on eBay seems to specialise in it - I've bought stuff from him in the past with no problems, just factor in shipping cost....

Got 2 of them in the boot. Had a quick look at the display one. Seem more than sturdy enough for my use, a good size and certainly good value at £25. I plan on getting a few more if they prove good.

Will take them up the workshop tomorrow and form a proper opinion and get a few pics.

I've put those IKEA ones in every comms room I've ever worked in. Bloody good units for the price.

The two I've got have had hole saws, drill bits, lathe tools, grinding discs, etc, etc, pulled out and thrown into them for something like four or five years ...not fallen to bits yet. If the ones on sale now are the same quality, then they're still a bargain.

Picked up a little filing cabinet last night for £20, these things are ideal but unfortunately are thin on the ground round here. Wheres best to source this kind of stuff?

Gumtree and eBay. Search for Bisley. I have four of the 15-drawer A4-sized ones and two giant 11-drawer ones which a member on here identified as old Microfiche index card units, I think that's what you have there. You'll be staggered by how much you can de-clutter your workshop with just a couple of them.

I think they sell all their stuff online, but there's probably delivery costs.

I suspect there are likely to be a bucketload of similar cupboards or drawers going from work shortly as we're moving site soon. I've had a few out on scrap notes over the years but big numbers in one lump is likely to be refused. Several times I've suggested that the charity challenge team give them a once over and take photos and list them on ebay or similar but they've never been interested - strikes me as money for nothing since they just go in a scrap metal skip otherwise.

Just secured 4 sets of the ikea cabinets for £10 each, bargain! Will have 6 of them now plus the little one I got last week.

Another one on Gumtree im swithering ovee but might have enough now!

Hi all,

We badly need some storage solutions at the workshop, stuff is just piled up or in boxes that don't stack properly. Things like grinding/sanding discs, brushes, large fasteners (or many small fasteners), wire wheels etc etc, basically stuff that is just too big or we have too much of for conventional organiser drawers.

The obvious solution are the plastic bins on louvre panels but there are 2 problems with them, a) they are open to dust and debris and it gathers up and makes a mess, I know that versions are available with lids but that bring me nicely to problem b) they are bl00dy expensive! (or the cheaper ones don't do decent size ones with lids)

Ideally I would like a big version of the little organiser drawers, something with a drawer size of about 150x240x125 or bigger, think big enough to get a scotchbrite pad in.

I saw this and thought that looks great (if flimsy!), until I realised that the stated size was for the whole unit, not per box.

Everything seems to either be far too small (organiser drawers units) or far too big (storage drawer unit)

Any ideas?

I bought them years ago and never used them until last year, then they really came into their own.
They sometimes fetch stupid money now, but I paid about two quid each for them.
A pair of Bisley 7 drawer document filing cabs act as additional tool stores. Picked them up relatively locally. That was ... interesting... strapping them to the bike.
