Ours is on its last legs. Most used tool in the shop!

Hi Paul, Like the new avatar who's that ?, can't say I've used one myself but nearly everyone of our contractors have them on site, either the same make or de walt or a similar clone and they seem to be a) very loud and b) very robust, my mates have a dab set at their garage premises and that's been going for years despite all the fumes dust and general grime associated with a busy garage environment.

They look pretty good tbh, the one we have has steadily died and only receives two stations, one of which is Classic FM The 1m rule is its aerial which means there is no radio when someone is using it

They certainly do, best of luck.

On the other hand you could scrounge radios off Freecycle and throw them away when they pack up. No big loss if they get stolen too.

Anyone know where cheap internet radios are available ? We have a wifi network set up in the house that is accessable in the shed, i like bbc radio 4 (yeah i'm still back in the 50's) and it doesn't come in very clearly on the normal radio.

Best way not to get caught out is have a listen to one.
I have many a DAB that quite frankly wont receive any stations (many Pure) or just plainly sound total crap.
In fact the only two any good for sound and sensitivity are certain Roberts and Cowan both of which receive 47 stations. 5 Pures received no stations that could be listened to without dropouts.

DAB eats batteries.

I just use a cheap DAB radio wrapped in cling film to stop the dust and stuff messing it up....lasted a few years now, just keep it out of the way of sparks!!

I dont even do that with my old Roberts from 2002, swarf, dust and burn marks. Great sound too unlike many cheapies, you dont realise how loud you have it on a sign of quality.

Listen before you buy, theyre all different even from same manufacturer.

We have a few radio's around work,if its not for site work, ROBERTS seem the best audio quality,the cheap radios all seem to have poor displays ,that are illegible in normal lighting conditions .
At home I did as Roger suggested and have a hi fi seperates Kenwood and pioneer from freecycle ,I like to use more than 2 speakers on a bigger shop to keep the overall volume down...

I buy mine from the charity shop, couldn't give a hoot what they sound like , as they all sound the same blaring over a 90db+ back ground. And they all die sooner than later.

I have a couple of Pure radios that work fine, both must be a few years now, I only ever listen to 6 music these days, TBH its background noise, haven't really the time or am on the phone too much to listen to it properly.

Cracking radio. Plenty of volume and DAB is great over fm. There are seals on the radio to prevent dust intrusion, so should be resistent to grindings.

Just remembered be careful buying a DAB radio, I read somewhere they are changing the slots because they haven't got channels. So early radios will not work. You need the ones tat can have their S/ware upgraded

They are pretty good, decent sound considering its size.

We just use old hifis or portable stereos.
Aerial is just a tig rod.
One in the main workshop must be 5-6 years old, 10mm covering of dust

Im a 6music fan im under 30 but radio 1 has changed soooo much in the past 2 years I cant listen to it anymore

I use my iphone on the house wifi then a set of old computer speakers plugged into the phone. The biggest benefit is that I can hear my phone ringing through the speakers which is great!

Ive got one, they are superb always tuned to planet rock. It will last 2hrs on my drill battery but it comes with a mains adapter aswell.
It also has an Fm radio built in and you can plug an mp3 player into it.
The sound quality is fanatastic for a small unit, nice rich base.
