work shop heating (again)

I have a huge workshop well for me it's huge 16x6m with 6m ceiling. Sort of insulated but still cold.
I have tried using convector heaters, it's a bit like burning money.
I have an old calor gas heater but it seems to have died after years chucked in a corner.
I cant see it being effective to try and heat the whole space.
Plan A is to make a warmish (ie less cold) island around my workbench.
I used to stash the calor heater underneath at my old even colder place and it sort of did the job. My neighbour is banging on about his oil fired space heater, but the noise would drive me crazy. But he says cheap to run
So what to do?
ideally cheap to run and not billed quarterly which says gas/oil? cant be fitting a wood burner.
Not fussed what it looks like. But preferably quiet

If you just want to feel some warmth rather than heat the whole space then radiant heatings a good option. What is your calor heater? Is it the super ser type?

it was one of them, so knackered I'm not going to attempt to fix it.
heating the whole space would be out of the question. That is just over half of it

A) How about lowering the ceiling by creating a mezzanine, and only heating one "floor". Dougle the floorspace, and use the upper floor for storage.
b) The heat will rise, so it'll be toasty at the ceiling and cold round the feet! Some ceiling mounting downdraught fans would help to bring the warm air down.

buy a proper infrared heater the type that just projects the heat on your body and not the air round it

tried IR heaters but I am constantly moving around, probably another super ser then.
I remember one cold snap I walled in my workbench with cardboard and had a hole I could stand in front of

My shed is almost the same size tho the roof isn’t as high. I have onE of those fireball heaters that runs on kerosene or diesel - it’s noisy but even on cold days 15min is enough to bring the place up to a comfortable temperature. I can check the btu of the one I have if you like, if you get one that’s too small it’ll be on too much to hear yourself think.

As per Brightspark, Our big workshop at ICI had electric infrared heaters mounted about 6mtrs high, immediately felt the heat when switched on, but did not heat work benches etc, At home I have the portable ceramic propane small heater on a long hose, only needs to be on for quite a short time until I get warmed through then turn off.

Ive got one of those.........OK for toast but not much else.......better on a small gas bottle as its nearer the floor

Good evening gents. I can give you some heat, in fact as much as you like, if you can give me some of your cold. Coming to the worst time of year for me here. You can put something more on, however there is a limit to what you can take off, coupled with the humidity you can have mould growing around the genticular region

I've got three 85kw propane space heaters in my workshop. After 15 minutes I can turn off two of them and one keeps it fairly warm. Unless it's below freezing and I run two of them.

I should say they are piped up to 8x 4000l calor tanks that heat the poultry sheds.
