Work shop build Vapour barrier and thermal insulation HELP

Hi Just a question on Vapour barrier thermal foil . I will be building the next stage of my shed soon 20ftx7ft I am three cause up on concrete blocks and the rest will be timber framed with 4x2 then 12.5 ply with 19mm shiplap .

The finish on the inside will not be plaster board more like ply , as you can tell I am learning as I go.

So where do I install the vapour barrier thermal foil ?

I would put a vapour barrier behind the ply

The vapour barrier is always on the WARM side (i.e. the inside, unless you're building a cold-store) of the insulation. It's there to stop moisture condensing within the insulation at the point within the insulation where the temperature falls to the 'dew point' - i.e. the condensation temperature.

how i would do it vapour barrier felt to the outside of the framing and underneath the framing as well over the top, insulated using your type of insulation on the inside thermal foil inside but that can be put on last after insulating it

the main thing you have to concentrate on is get your frames all built then overlap one side with the felt barrier then start building it this means any water from roof will just run off the sides as well

Thanks all but it quite technical is it really needed ? So basically I build 4x2 stud frame then 12mm ply outside then vapour barrier wrap the ply then over the top I shiplap ? can I then insulate the inside of the shed between the stud ? then board over with either ply or plaster board ?

yes and no

build your stud frame either in situe or built in frame sections ( your choice ) dont forget that damp coarse on the wall then wrap the outside with vapour felt this seals the outside from the elements so if it rains it wont get past the felt remember to overlap the felt by 6" at the bottom and on the overlap or more do over the top this seals the wood from any water penetration do all 4 sides then do the roof

then insulate on the inside before finally using the relective sheet last of all board over it

this is if your frame building it with boards on outside

if you cant frame build it then build it as a frame but make sure your lengths are correct

Wow that was a good watch ..But I have missed something out already the batons that are applied over the vapour barrier before I clad with shiplap..

On my build Ive got from the inside
scaffold board
tyvek....silver to the outside
2" x 1.5" timber lathes
500g visqueen ploythene
clapperboard timber

If I wanted I could put insulation underneath the visqueen but I dont think I need it

I put 6" of glass wool in the void and silver bubble wrap as a vapour barrier with ally tape on the joints, topped with 12mm Stirling board - I'm too clumsy to have plaster board walls! I left the ceiling shiny silver as it makes the workshop lighter. I fixed the bubble wrap in place with a staple gun. The workshop is cool in the summer and easy to heat in winter and best if all my tools and machinery don't go rusty!
