Work Placement help

A good friend of Winchboy's is studying Product Design at Uni.
He is a great lad but struggling to find a placement, he is ideally looking at furniture manufacture / design.
So can any one give me some pointers as we need to think outside the box as he has tried all the usual suspects with no joy.

How about office furniture? I know off a company in Goole who design, supply and install but it may be too far.

Tried bedroom furniture companies
Also the likes of howdens for kitchen design and manufacturing. Also a good few small kitchen companies about.

I used to make the prototypes for the Relyon design team. They have been taken over by Steinhoff but as far as I'm aware they still have in house designers.
They manufacture beds and bedroom furniture.

Also Clark's Shoes have a design team who design the shop fittings and layout for all their stores.

How old is this lad? We have to jump through loads of hse hoops if we take on nippers from college, it’s not straight forward.

years a go a mate was asked to have a mates son for a week work experance ok thats fine but he had to make chanes to his insurance and jump over hoops for heath and safety was cheaked before he could attend he only run a shop worse thing could happen is a box on staples could fall on his foot

this was 10/12 years ago so prob worse now

Furniture restorers and upholsterers, he would learn more in 3 weeks about different construction methods, weak points, materials, and just how difficult it is to put furniture together, than he has in the University.

That's the issue - the risk, as happened to us, is someone getting injured, even a paper cut, and it goes down in the accident book, gets reported, forms to fill in, people to notify . . . so ours fall asleep behind a screen in an office, rather than out on the shop floor, building something.

There’s a place local to me that designs over priced tables and stuff that only gets sold to checked shirt bearded hipsters... there must be someone local to the lad that makes tat like this

Beat me to it. Elite Office furniture . They are currently building a moosive plant just outside Goole, god knows how much its costing, been at it for ages.
