I've always liked a bit of wood bothering, and I actually got an O level in it at school. However since then I've done little more than build few sheds nd some simple furniture.
I have collected a few nice pieces in my travels around the world, that were chosen specifically because they're not the average tourist stuff.
Pangnit. Means ugly, in Tagalog. He is about 10" tall and was on the scrap pile in a wood carving shop where we lived in the Philippines.

Just a shell, 2' diameter, really well made, the thickness along the 'waves' is within a couple of mm.

Pogi. Means handsome. A metre high wood gnome, not sure what the wood is but he was the first souvenir I bought when I moved to the Philippines some 27 years ago.

He is seriously nice, such a heavy chunk of woody goodness. It doesn't really come out in the pics, but the eyes are carved so he seems to be staring at you all the time.Yeah that's woodcarving. The bottom skull really makes me want to pick it up. Bet that feels amazing in the hand.
