Woodwork archway question

I need to rebuild this Rose Arch...should the cross members be square to the posts or angled to be square with the V shape if you get me

so pic 2 or pic 3 being correct

If you're not planning to cover the roof then either will work though square to the angle of the V shape (as per pic 3) would be 'normal'.

yeah will just be as is ....so pic 3 is the typical method then?

I would have thought square to the board would also reduce the chances of that front board splitting as seen in your pics.

In that situation I'd go plumb. More visually appealing having everything in keeping with the ridge board. Looks like they were plumb previously too.
