Greetings members,
I am need of advice.
I would say help, but you lot would be knocking down my door and cart me away in a canvas and leather cuddle jacket.
I am about to bid on a metal frame box, with sheet steel side panels. No pictures as yet. It is in a local(ish) auction house.
The out side of the box is, should be. I want to re line it with the marquetry wood in-lay panels. At present they are either laying next to the box or inside it.
It looks like it was originally glued on with animal glue, what modern glue/adhesive will be suitable?
The panels have to be removed, to make good the metal and fix the bent bars. Plus the wood needs some attention.
It is believed to be about 1900 to 1920 construction, any other hazards I need to be worried about?
Thanks all.
If it is worth getting and I get it I will post it up on here.
