Hi , I have bought a Esse Montrose mk2 , all in good nick , used , can't find a specific manual for it on line , I suspect it's pre internet , it's 545 high about 350 deep and 400 ish wide , the fire place is 800 high 650 wide and about 350 deep , the clay lined chimney is about 175 dia with front edge about 150 from front of fireplace , my worry is now it may not fit , an offset flue jobby perhaps , are you still in Cornwall ? The stove shop in Pike St has moved to Heathlands industrial estate , we tried to get them to come out and quote but it seems they are very busy , there is another in Miller industrial estate but that's appointment only and as Iam still working haven't been able to get there , ,Do yourself a favour and read the instruction manual for the stove you’ve bought. The manufacturers instructions pretty much override anything else.
Did you get your stove from the Stove Shop in Liskeard? I used to work for them (about 25 years ago).
Hi the lintel is 800 ish high at the bottom , 60s block built stack ,You need to find out what height the front lintel is which holds up the stack above the opening, that’s your max height, as I mentioned my original fireplace opening height was much smaller and was part of the false fireplace. If it’s a brick built stack it’ll likely have a concrete lintel. When was the house built?
Mine was in the early 1920’s and it was very common in that era to build in a non structural smaller fireplace within the foot of the stack
It's a Montrose mk 2 , have emailed Esse , thanks again for your wisdom ,I’d give Esse a call or send them an email. They’ll probably be able to send you a copy of the manual. The only problem might be if it’s so old it’s pre CE mark. If it’s not CE approved (or UKCA for post brexit) then in theory it can’t be installed “legally”. For some time now it’s been a requirement that a stove is CE/UKCA approved for notified installations. Installing a wood burner is notifiable work.
