Wood stove materials.

I have some small bottles and a 47kg bottle. looking to make my first wood burner and wondered what mm sheet people use for baffles and top plates?
Also, what piping for flue? would a lamp post do it?

Going to look around at the others on here to get an idea of the best way to make one as I've not attempted this before.

Any help/tips appreciated.

Aren't lamp posts galved? If so I wouldn't use it with a stove as it will give off nasty fumes when heated to stove operating temps. As for baffles, go for something slightly thicker than the bottle as it will get a lot of heat been right above the flames.

Well I just purchased a 5.5 inch bit of pipe and that looks to big
so I recon 4.5 inch would be ok.

Looked at loads of woodburners on here. Some have holed fronts, some second burns etc.

Im wanting something to sit around in the garden. Maybe incorporating a flat plate for a kettle or skillet.
What's the general consensus on these with regards to vents, baffles, secondary air etc?

It will be my first so dont want something over complicated but would like it to be decent so maybe secondary burn etc would be good? don't know really.

I use mostly 4mm for bodies, for a cooking top plate, 6 or 8mm as a bit stiffer.
Flues: Put a collar on the outlet and use stainless pipe, so no rust probs. If you can get it, CorTen is much better for the bodies, I managed to get a deal where it was the same price as black plate, so made all my stoves out of it.

If it just for the Patio, so heating the stars, forget the secondary stuff. Get on with global warming

Oh, for baffles, just use 4mm. They might distort, but not enough to make any difference.

I was thinking more of it maximising.burn time thus reducing.wood required. I dont have loads of wood available unless we get deliveries at work when I then grab the pallets.

Secondary air will cut down on smoke as well, make sure the air is hot when it mixes with the smoke to burn well.

4 to 6 inch seems to be the standard size for most stove flues

Right then.

So far.
Top plate 6 - 8mm
Baffle/s to cover 1/2 - 1/3
Flue 4 - 6 inch.
Primary burn for igniting = leave door ajar (?)
Secondary burn to run inside to heat and exit near 1st baffle with variable inlet. But what dia would be needed for inlet?
