Anything that involves cutting or dismantling gas bottles I should give a miss personally. Making a BBQ is always a good project but for camping stoves that you need to work al weathers I should just buy one a basic two ring don't cost a lot I even carry one on the truck when I am working out on some jobs

Being a Safety Rep at work and having done a fair bit of training I wont be cutting a gas bottle!
I have a twin burner stove and use a Barbeque that I usually build a fire in but I just wondered if the people who take them camping find then a good or bad thing

Trangia meths stove and/or a Kelly Kettle is all we have every used for a family of 4, our just me & 'er-indoors, or just me on my own.

Still got (and use) my 30 year old Trangia. Brilliant little stove and super reliable.

Like anything there is a right and a wrong way of doing things, if H&S did not baby our world maybe idiots would not be around to breed with other idiots creating a new generation of super idiots, but hay they are there to give "us" sensible 
people a laugh right?, as long as when they fire up the gas axe to cut a door into an unchecked oxy bottle they are a fair way from me then I am fine with that, just set the gopro up lads so we can have a chuckle at how NOT to do things later on tonight then thats fine haha
Made a good few BBQ's and log burners out of OLD gas bottles over the years, I will say its hard to find old bottles that are no longer property of gas companies, I had a load of 1960's bottles but sadly have now run out and like I say finding the ones that are "legal" to cut up is hard.
Good luck and a well worth while task if you can find the bits
A mini one I made last week from a decommissioned bottle found in an old caravan. Ideal for camping Has a small grill for those sausages

My dad bought me my Trangia in 1975, so its 40 years old this summer. Its all there still and in perfect working ordered. I've had the Aluminium Kelly Kettle for 20 odd years and again it is in perfect working order (although I do covert the latest stainless steel versions).

I like the Trangia but we have a Jet boil for back packing as its faster and a big twin burner gas job for camping out the back of the car, we usually have a fire in the Barbeque but I thought of a gas bottle type stove for fires at night more than anything
as an alternative source, try your local A/C place, ask them if they have any empty little 13 kg freon bottles. They're consumable, they'd most likely give you them for nothing. The last project we had hundreds, we cut them all open and used them as ashtrays at the smoking areas...

I do like the look of that, you could use the ring off the top of the bottle to line the aperture for the cooking surface, biggest question would be what to use for the bbq grill the one they have looks quite substantial.Just looking at the Ozpig, I feel I wasted my bottle, but lucks in as I have another....and some large round pipe, next week I will be making me one I thinks
