View the cost of wood screws I don't understand why you'd want to, and if you really did, a lathe.......can you get dies to cut wood screw thread, out of curiosity of course

In big boxes you usually find 1 or 2 blanks, they have the head but the threaded part is just smooth
I experimented making some 20mm diameter ones ,in 316 stainless for a customer,still got the trial one,starting the thread at a point was always going to be a challenge & I was operating the cross slide by hand.
I didn’t go any deeper on the thread than a couple of mm,gave up in the end ,down to economics.

If you were turning a knob & wanted it to screw into wood, would be one example. However, a standard thread will hold almost as well. You just need to pilot drill the correct size into the wood.

Not a wood screw, but a wooden screw. Down in Devon years ago I visited a cider place with a huge old apple press, made totally of wood. The pressing was done with a wooden screw about 18” OA diameter, square thread form, and cut solely from wood. This was a couple hundred years old apparently, long before lathes were invented.
Now I can see how to mark out and hand chisel a male thread that size, but how to cut the mating female thread accurately? How wolid you get your chisel, hammer, and head inside, to be able to see the job and chisel simultaneously?

Make in two halves and glue together.
