wood lathe as notcher

Hello Stephen here , im using dad's account whilst he's resting up.

Been offered a Clarke wood lathe head unit, no beam, for silly money.
It as chuck etc with it.
Would it be suitable to use as base for tubing notcher?

Can't see why not! I use my Myford for notching with a tube clamp bolted to the vertical slide

We've had a few registered at your age so no problem, it's only if you make out you're "gods gift" to welding the fun starts!

I use my mill as a notcher, made a little pipe clamp and have an indexable cutter that it good for between 20mm and 60mm dia. could probably make more inserts for bigger though

most wood lathes will be spinning pretty quick for cutting metals, you may have to slow it down using some pulleys.
