Got the chance of one of these cheap, it has only been used 3/4 times. All I know is that Aldi sell them. Want one for the odd time our power goes off, boil a kettle, run the sky and tv nothing to heavy. Any good or avoid like the plague

I wouldn't rely on it as a backup, nor pay a lot for it, £25-30. A few folks at the stables have bought them and their clones, some fail within a few days, others have lasted a year or more, seems to be the luck of the draw.

The next problem is safely using an unsuitable generator in the home

That's that then, they can keep it. Eventually found a bit about them on the net and it echoes what you say. Will wait for a Honda to come up for grabs. Cheers

We bought a Hyundai electric start generator a couple of years ago, the AVR failed in a couple of weeks but they sent me a replacement overnight and since then had no problems. It's used a couple of hours every day during winter so should do for what you want.
