Wiring a Direct Online Starter to Single Phase Power Hacksaw

Hi Guys

I have almost completed the refurbishment of a Qualters & Smith Power Hacksaw Model 150 with a single phase motor and small coolant pump.

I am now looking at the electrics which I think needs to be done by someone more electrically competent then myself, unless I can find a
DOL( Direct online starter) the same as detailed in the photo and then just copy the wiring.

If this can't be done then I would be interested to hear from any sparky not far from Camberley who could undertake this work at a reasonable a price. I would stress that this is single phase machine and I would guess that a new DOL would have to be installed.

I would ask at your local electrical wholesaler to see what they have in stock, just get one to match the motor size and full load current. They are very simple to connect.

The hacksaw was converted from 3 phase to single phase and then left in the garden for a few years. It would seem it is only the DOL and the supply cable that that need changing out. I have attached the name tag on the motor and guess this will determine what DOL to use. Regards Steve

You might consider fitting a combined starter and no-volt release while you're at it.

Errr... does the DOL not peform the same function? You press the button, the brass strip feeds the contactor coil and causes it to pull in, then as long as the current draw is within the rating of the overload the contactor stays in until either you press the stop button or the mains fails, at which point it dops out and needs the start button pressing again - simply reconnecting the mains won't restart the unit.

OP, you need a DOL with the same overload rating as that shown (5.5 to 8.5 Amps as far as I can make out). The motor data plate shows 7.7A if my eyes are working right...

Some do some don't.

The one I bought from Machine Mart has an adjustable overload but no NVR.

The one fitted to my extractor has an NVR but no overload.

Just as well to make sure you know what you're buying.
