Wire size 0.6 or 0.8

What are the wire size differences? apart from the numbers.

Which one is better for car bodywork? I have used flux cored before so I had a choice of 0.9 or 0.9. lol

Any help gratefully received

You can get 0.8mm gas-less wire which performs better than the 0.9mm on thin stuff, but for the very best performance you want 0.6mm standard mild steel wire + Argonmix gas

Gasless runs hotter than gas shielded solid wire, which is one of the reasons it's much easier to weld thinner metal using solid wire with shielding gas.

The wire diameter is one of the things that controlls the welding current. Smaller diameter wire makes for less current, again easier for the thin stuff.

Gas shielded 0.6mm wire for bodywork. Though you need to buy the bottle of gas. Not as bad as it used to be - they can be had rent free these days - see the sticky post in the shielding gas section of the forum.

I have an account with BOC for my Oxy/Acetelene bottles (which I will shortly be returning)
I thought I would be just changing gas type with them but if I can get the bottle rent free that will save loads. .......goes off to check gas shielding forum....
