Wire for hardfacing?

I need to build up some surfaces on a worn 15mm plate. It forms part of a machine that has been worn out through high tensile steel being repeatedly pulled over its surface in a few areas.

A few problems; i don't want the plate to pull upwards as its welded, and i need to be able to blanchard grind it flat afterwards so need a wire that is not too tough. I need awire that doesnt cause a boat load of feed problems.

We won't be giving it as much stick as it has previously had so i'm wondering whether to just build it up with normal MS wire.

Any thoughts?

312, capped with a face would be my choice, especially if your not sure on the mechanicals of the parent. you may be better to do it with the stick, as your gain little from piling it with the MIG except a load of H/D.

Got similar to do with some hubs (when time permits) and build the stud holes, prior to machining.

Facing wire runs just fine, evil stuff tho, so Air feds a must.

I would build it up with MIG like you say

Then it depends........you do know that if the weld is harder than the high tensile steel it will be the HT steel that wears away.
Do you know the tensile strength so we can determine the hardness?

Most hardfacing can be ground, obviously some easier than others, and most dont achive their optimum properties until the 3rd layer

What is actual serviced condition of the surface???
