wire feed trouble!

hi guys i used the mig for the first time today and when the wire comes throgh the tip it arcs and stops! and the rollers slip it feels like the wire is stuck in the torch or wire tubing, a little wiggle and it pops back out again i try to weld and gets stuck again a little wiggle and more pops through! sometimes it burns back to the tip sometimes not !

when i dont try weld with it the wire comes throgh ok?

Do i need a new torch liner ? and i hear they do a swan neck liner for cebora pocket 130 and can somone please direct me to the best liner ?

It's a secondhand Cebora guessing from previous threads. Try the bag of sugar test on the wire liner: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/sip-wirefeed.htm

Generally if a wiggle changes things it'll be the liner or swan neck, but what tips are you using? Cheap 0.6mm tips can be a real pain when they heat up a little.

hi mate well to be honnest i bought brand new tips what are stamped 0.8 what i ordered and they only fit 0.6wire?????? and they werent cheap

im really annoyed because i have had the welder 2 weeks and still havent managed to do a pool of weld! its just mig shops around my area arent open weekends and dont stock cebora bits

0.8 tips are for 0.8 wire not 0.6.... what diameter wire are you using?

That can be a trouble when buying used welders. I would guess wire liner and swan neck liner would be the next step. I'm sure weldequip on here will be able to get them for you.

Edit> You can generally use 0.8mm tips on 0.6mm wire. That wouldn't cause the trouble you are having.

and no it doesent matter how close i hold the torch even if i hold it in the air it will only unfree when i shake it and you can hear it click ? when it releases

Wht are the best type liners ?

I would agree with Malcolm.
It sounds like the liner in the torch neck is missing or is defective.

Yeah that looks good! I think it will solve the problems you're having!
Now i didn't get the bit about the new tips, you bought 0.8 wire and 0.8 tips but the wire wont pass trough the new 0.8 tip is that it? That's weird!
I'm sure Weldequip will show up soon to tell you more, mate don't worry!

thats correct mate ?? so i tried the old 0.8 tips and theyer fine i thought i was going mad lol . They fit perfect with 0.6 although theyer stamed 0.8 ?

i may make a patio heater for my first project what ya think ?

Haha! yea that would drive me nuts too!
I dunno how it works in other country's but here in france it's metric....so you have 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 for tips and wiresizes...

The last time someone asked me why the wire wouldn't go through the tip, it was because he was using cheap cutters to snip the wire, this puts a burr on the end and stops it dead in the tip, of course it could just be that they are incorrectly packaged.

Had this problem before, when feeding wire through a new tip I always cut the wire diagonally, but as you say, they may be wrongly packaged.

Yes or dull cutters....
But the size is stamped into the tip, that would be a big mistake from the plant that makes them right?
Hehe...then again, looking at the screwups they make at our plant....it could be possible!

no plans for the heater yet i have to get hold of a bottle first but i think maybe a main door with mesh in so the ash drops through onto a ash tray (piece of steele) how do the other guys do it ? need to get the mig sorted first !!
