Windscreen chip repair.

Both cars have a small chip in their windscreens. Has anybody used any of these DIY chip repair resins and has one they can recommend?

Looking online it would be around 30quid a car, so a DIY repair would be a big saving.

mixed results for me , worth a try for a tenner but dont expect miracles

seems to work best with some heat ..so the glue flows into the gaps

Have you got windscreen cover on your insurance - not suggesting application of a centre-pop to the screen, but many will often sort a free repair for chips.

Had mine fixed once on the insurance by one of those firms who advertise on the TV. It worked to a degree but was told Id left it too long before the repair, the quicker you get it sorted the better the repair. On the plus side the repairwas free under the insurance cover.

I did a van that had masses of chips in.

Worth a try I reckoned, rather than buying a new screen.

Mixed results, some came out brilliant, others ok, others, particularly shallow scrapes pretty poorly.

But overall a big improvement on the original state.

Didn't get on with the special suction cup thing, ended up working it in with something small and pointy before popping on the little polarised sheet things.

local auto glass did one for me , 27 quid , did for a few years , but i did put a screen in at the end of it all , i was pleased with the result. granted not diy , but for the wee bit extra he had all sorts of great wee tools .

Thanks all, I'm thinking of giving one of the kits a go for a tenner. One has been chipped for a while and only noticed the other one the other day but not sure how long that one has been on there.

I've only looked at the one policy, £15 excess for a repair which is ok and then £100 excess if it needs the screen replaced, not sure about the other car, will have to have a look.
Had a look at the autoglass online price thing, you enter all the info, size of chip, location of it etc. and they give you a price... £187 put a screen in a different car for £150 fitted only the other year. No wonder insurance is so expensive when they're slapping them with those kinds of bills

Good grief ,, thats got a wee bit out of hand. If I was paying that for a chip , Id hit it with my boot first and put a screen in . the nice thing about glass is that if you dont like the diy version it will scrape off and be non the worse.

We have a kit at work, can't remember the make but it's about £600, sound similar, you inject a resin into it and put a uv light on the reverse to cure it, mixed results, some times the chip disappears, others looks like you've done nothing
