by the read of that you want windows 10 installed on the stick to run it from the usb stickEdit baby now asleep brain allowed to function again. Lol
Seems like it's NOT what I want. I want windows 10 running ON the stick. (Windows 7 will do but as I am now on 10 it makes sense to stick with that if I can)
That's it...lolby the read of that you want windows 10 installed on the stick to run it from the usb stick
thats called windows 10 live
I realise that BUT once I have a bee in my bonnet.....lolIt seems like this is getting overly complex.
You can download and install the free Windows 10 Installation Media directly from Microsoft, here: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
Then boot that and go into safe mode, which should then allow you to attach a USB disk and copy files off your hard disk - option 3 here: How to start Windows 10 in Safe Mode (9 ways) - Digital Citizen
If safe mode boots to a command prompt, just type "explorer.exe" in the command window to get the file explorer up.
No need to hand-make all the tools...
Why bother with Windows for that? There are plenty of Linux Live CDs / USB distributions that are far better suited to recover files from things. It's to recover files from my laptop. Lol
As above...bee in my bonnet..Why bother with Windows for that? There are plenty of Linux Live CDs / USB distributions that are far better suited to recover files from things.
Ok so......interesting reply from Easyuefi.
So the not so simple methods described above are actually better. (Simple if you know what you are doing)View attachment 310825
That said all I really wanted was a simple way to get windows OS. To access files. I felt a USB stick was easier to store in a safe place.
Skotl method relies on a Disk as does sako243.
Or does it? I am not over familiar with Linux and I tend to shy away from it.
Sounds like that could also reside on a USB stick .
I am guessing Skotls method could also without checking.
not for me its not and as ive learnt google found other ways to do what i want to doAbsolutely - it expects to be burned to a USB stick.
You download the tool directly from Microsoft, in the link above, it prompts for a USB stick and writes to it. Boot from that USB stick and either install Windows 10 or go to safe mode, which should allow access to your machine's hard disk.
One stop shop, all Microsoft, all supported - easy
Read my note again, Gaz - you've missed the point.not for me its not and as ive learnt google found other ways to do what i want to do
windows dosnt support live cd/dvd and never has done
other people created a live cd for usage even hirens boot cd wasnt windows made the thing most repairers use to fix peoples systems
It wasn't the gcard. I can't remember what it actually was. I will see if I can remember.skotl i think you have miss read like i did
ukracer is after a usb live disk made out of a usb stick so he wants to install the operating system onto the usb stick itself and run it from the usb stick to back it up
a few of us have mentioned other discs that are better instead
the suggestion your suggesting is right if you intend to install the os from the usb stick to the hard drive
but you can install it from other ways so dont need windows software to do so only the windows iso (disc)
the problem here is ukracer stuborn aproach in wanting to use a certain software even though some of us have said use another software to do it and he wont take no for an answer
eg: the fiasco of the computer and lcd screen
he was adament it was working without checking and was blaming the wires and screens later found out the gcard was faulty
