Yes, hydro has a great power profile, even if only available in winter, complements cheap PV well. I've looked into it here as we have a small stream. But it's not that steep and penstock works are a massive investment. Also, don't even think of mentioning it to the EA!
Wind is pretty good, if on grid, with excess generation dumped into a night storage heater or two, the house is at its toastiest when it's blowing a hoolie. Which is exactly when it's hardest to keep heat in the place.
