The original quote is talking about CFDs, where the govt subsidise the cost. This needs to change.

Feed in rate is a joke, 5p would be good, we often have commercial users saying they get 3p it the company refuse to meter it and pay them

ive been looking at a home-build turbine along the ridge of my new workshop - just a 100w or so to run pond pumps + garden lights.
even with the cost of storage batteries, payback time is 1/2 that of feeding back into the grid according to my calcs - and i can keep adding to the installation without falling foul of the g98(?) form "gotcha"[1]

Yes, DNO upgrades upto and including substation is paid for by whoever needs the bigger supply

Self consumption is always better, you offset your import, and what your swindling supplier charges you (less of course your distibution co costs).

The Amish around here all seem to run those tiny 400w ones.

looked into them.
the 400W rating is, erm, "optimistic" to say the least - like it would peak at maybe 400 just before the hurricane wrecked it.
They're nearer 10-15W average

its not a matter of "under the radar" - beyond that to feed my surplus into the local network, it has to be under a certain size
if i was only credited/charged for the monthly difference between my generation and usage it wouldnt be so bad, but any usage is charged at ~30p per unit, and any generation only credited at ~5p

its actually worthwhile to buy enough storage batteries to power my house, and charge them overnight on the cheap rate, and not have any onsite generation at all.

I think you are missing the point, the rates offered at the last auction were so low that no one bid, the company I work for was interested in 2GW of the 5 available, however they would have been operating at a loss

However I'm heading out now, I will likely return to a thread that has degenerated into the usual anti renewables mess

Without something like cfd, no one would risk building major generators - quite simply, the risks would be too great - cfd exists to de risk the project. The other option would be the g.ment would have to take on the project directly, and we know how good they are at that don’t we?

De risk yes, provide an unlimited resource because either you misled or outright lied to the government or totally **Language**ed up your pricing, no

I'm not sure which of the 3 it is, but given the level of hyperinflation on every single large scale contract it is clearly one of the 3 ... assuming we can rule out utter incompetence at this level of contracting.

And it is neither anti "renewable" anti ev or any other anti ...

Pricing? How can you price a huge construction project involving geollogy (tunnelling, sea bed works, I dunno what else? Then you have market changes etc). Yes you add a percentage to cover risk, bit even then this can be exceeded. I've built a few £1M plus schemes, every issue you come across needs more money to fix, I'd hate to think what a job involving tunnelling would be like...
