winch advice superwinch?

lookignt to get a winch for a 7.5 ton beaver tail lorry. really only to pull a car up or a 2ton dumper.

I am looking at a superwinch there is a distributor near me seems to be costing somewere around 500.

but I am also looking at perhaps getting a hydraulic one.

now the lorry had a hydraulic pump on the gearbox via PTO that powers the ramps it also has a small 12v hydraulic pump and splitter valve for powering a jolly hiab that we dont use at all.

If i did decide to get a hydraulic winch which would be the better choice for the feed to it.

and are good hydraulic winches hard to come across?

what usually gives trouble on them?

Hydralic would be my first choice as less to go wrong and they don't over heat.

i would use the pto pump to power the winch it wont hammer the battery or leave you with a dead battery and will have more power

seems like hyd get the vote then. anyone use a superwinch? most of the local fellas use them on the back of their transit recovery vans and seem to think they are excellent.

ok I am going to have to think how to connect it up just using the splitter valve that is on the truck I will maybe grab a few pics.

anyone know were I could pick up a hyd winch?

one came up and I managed to get it.

does anyone have any experience with plumbing them in? there is a splitter valve like the one pictured below, can I just have the valve set to loop then plumb the other setting as a feed to the winch and have the outflow of the winch running back to the tank?

Hi Turbo,

Thats splitter valve is infact the Control Valve, so you can go forwards or backwards, dependant on how you turn the handle

excellent, that is the kind of thing I am after. I am just thinking how I am going to sort out returns and the like now as there is only 3 ports on my valve.

Put a relief valve (back to tank) before the input to the 3 port valve?
