Will this door frame be strong enough for a 32kg solid door?

bit of a stupid question as you can only see pictures but has anyone ever had experience with replacing a very light interior door (the honeycomb glorified cardboard one) with a hefty solid wood door. This one weighs 32kg! seems a good 10 times heavier….. dont want to go fo the effort of hanging it only to find out i need a new frame

would i just be best hanging it and seeing what happens?

If the frame is in good condition and secure it should be fine

Looks like the frame is a sensible size, possibly pine and screwed into studding. Can you see the studwork behind it? I might be tempted to bang a couple of extra screws though the casing.

If the walls are solid you could add a couple of frame fixers to hold the frame more solidly?

Not a stupid question at all.

If the casing is mounted directly against the stud, or if there are snug-fitting shims placed between the casing and the stud at the hinge attach points, then you should be able to use longer hinge-mounting screws that reach into the stud, which should allow the stud to share the burden of the door's weight.

Note: It's important that any shims between the casing hinge attach points and the stud fit very snugly so that you don't warp the casing when you tighten the screws.

You are probably already well aware of this, but you need to make absolutely certain that the longer screws won't be hitting or coming near any wires, pipes, etc.! A friend once installed longer hinge screws only to find out that they went through the stud and into a wire that was stapled to the other side of the stud. Fortunately, in this case there was no resulting shock or fire, but it could have been worse. I always check wiring and plumbing location...and screw length...before proceeding with things like this.

I did exactly that with 3 doors 3 years ago and all was fine,still is.

put 3 hinges on it and it will be fine
