So my 180amp mig states it requires a 32amp supply, obviously 13amp standard mains wouldn't allow maxing the set.......would this transformer with 13 a to 32 a solve my bother?

Nope. That's no use for your predicament. You need to run a suitably rated supply from the main supply.

My advice is don't rush into altering anything or spending more money that you need, whilst it's true the stated supply would be the ideal you may be surprised and find it works ok on a normal supply... mine did, even though some 130 amp mig's will trip the supply.

If the circuit protective device (breaker) supplys a ring final circuit it is normaly a 32A so depending on what else is connected to that ring it may well be ok a B type breaker will trip at approx 1.5 times the rated breaking capacity Ib, if you have a shed or workshop with its own consumer unit depending on the incoming supply cable and breaker you may be able to install a dedicated circuit for your welder 30 A is 6900 watt or almost 7Kw so 4mm twin and earth on a 32 amp breaker would be the way to go

I have run my 180amp Mig on a 13 amp plug for 8 years, mostly on an extension lead. Ok I dont often use max power but I often spend ages welding at quite high settings and have set off the thermal trip on the welder lots of times whichmeans it is working hard.
Try it and see.

yep i run a castomig 180 that is as big as a small car
on a 13amp supply....just bursts here and there no reall serious welding tbh..

Those yellow transformers transform 230v to 110v.

that just flat out will not work, the current may increase, but the voltage decreases to 110, which means it wont even power the fan in the welder. most migs will run off a 13 amp supply to 130-150 amps depending on the model. I have used my father in laws 150 amp snap on mig at full whack on a 13 amp supply and a 10M lead with no problems at all

I have a 60amp circuit that feeds a 32/16/16 socket for my welders and plasma. And another 40amp that runs the 32amp compressor socket.

When I ran the MIG welder at full tilt at 180amps on 13amp plug it kept blowing the fuses.

Our Cebora 180 used to trip the circuit, but using a very long extension reel, fully unwound, solved the problem.

I have used my Cebora 196 on a 13 amp plug for the last 20 odd years, never blown a fuse or tripped a breaker ???
