No, but all my metrology stuff is in its boxes wrapped in a sheet of vci or vp? Corrosion inhibitor paper, that seems to work well.Has anyone tried these anti rust sachets from Napier? https://www.napieruk.com/products/super-vp90-corrosion-inhibitor

Totally agree. Discovered this with PLA filament - storing filament in a vacuum bag with desiccant after it had absorbed moisture did no good at all - I needed to dry it out thoroughly first (8 hours in an air-fryer) and then store in a vacuum pack with desiccant. Bunging a couple of silica gel sachets in the bottom of a welder won't do any harm, but it won't do any good either.I'm going to open a 'can of worms here' and apologise in advance. For any Desiccant, generally Silica gel, to be effective it has to be used in an airtight container in a calculated quantity, commensurate with the moisture absorbent characteristics of the item being protected and any packaging. The amount of desiccant has to be calculated and is dependant as I said on the moisture absorbing qualities of the item being protected and any moisture absorbing packaging within the container. If the container is not airtight you're trying to 'dry the World'.
I'm sure that I'm now going to be bombarded with many anecdotal cases where desiccant appears to be effectively protecting your equipment. However the situation I've described is how packaging of items in storage works.
Use a bigger sockSounds a tad uncomfortable to me

My first roll lasted me 15 years - kept in a damp warehouse inside the machine - used very infrequently - never rusted. My current roll is probably 3 or 4 years old - also looks fine. Not had a MIG welder long and wonder if I have to do anything with the wire over winter? Machine has a new 5kg roll of Sif A18 mild steel wire, copper coated. Workshop is not heated and woodworking tools will take a light surface rust if not oiled, along with cast machine beds. Live very near the sea and will only use the machine occasionaly.
Is the wire likely to rust? and what has been tried as a cheap/simple solution to stop rusting?
