Wi-Fi dropping out

I've got a really annoying problem with my PC where the wi-fi is constantly dropping out and reconnecting.
I thought it was my usb wi-fi dongle so bought an internal card and it's doing exactly the same.
I've done a malware scan and done all the suggestions I can find online such as disabling power management etc. but it's still doing it.
Lots of events in the event viewer but they all seem to be after it's happened, all along the lines of "Name resolution for the name fls-eu.amazon.co.uk timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." which only tells me it tried to connect to that address but failed.
It only happens on the PC, never on my phone or ipad.
It's doing my noggin in, any suggestions?

sorry to say suck eggs and all that but have you tryed a full reset of your inter not just a power off and power on and set it up again i had virgin was near every day not connecting or connecting and then freezing done the power off a few times nothing loged in to the router clicked factory reset and set up agan worknig fine since
this was virgin bty but sure the rest are the same

Did a full factory reset of the router and reset all the network settings on my PC, nothing changed.
As said, it did it when I was using a USB adapter and still does it using a PCI one.

I've had issues in the past with both internal and usb wires adapters, so many variable its very hard to say what it could be. You could try an access point that has a station adapter mode, something like this:

Could be anything - even a noisy power supply!

When you said you had disabled power management did you do it for the actual card itself?

In device manager find the card - click properties - it will have it's own power management tab - perhaps you only disabled the main windows one?

Could be your broadband supplier having DNS issues, your phone/ipad may cache DNS resolution longer than your PC so may not suffer as badly. Get the IP address of a site and next time you have issues, try it with the IP address instead of host/domain name.

Check that "Power saving" is not enabled for the wireless adapter. Sometimes it defaults to enabled and will turn off the tx to save power.

There was an issue with Win10 when I first installed it. Exactly the same symptom. I tried disabling the power setting but it never solved the problem. It was only after several months and a few updates that the problem resolved itself. It was a driver issue, surprise surprise. I use wired now regardless.

I had that happening with BT. Kept telling them I thought it was the router but ignored so changed to SKY and no problems since.
If you can't hard wire then what about the adapters that plug into mains and then use that wiring ? I had them pre WiFi days and worked fine.

Had a similar problem some time ago, took ages to pinpoint the problem. Our problem was actualy our monitor causing our connection to drop out due to the refresh rate! Changed it and all fine ever since. Might be worth googling it. Never would have even considered it as a possible cause.

Try going into your router and changing the channel, the one your on might have interference with other devices.

I have exactly the same with my work laptop when working from home. I’ve had the IT department on the case. They have spent hours on it over the last few months. I’ve even sent my laptop to them and it’s been “cleaned” and upgraded to the latest everything but still giving me the same problem

I suffered similar symptoms on my BT Hub a few years back, changed supplier since. I managed to solve it by using the slower wifi standard with the hub. I think it was capable of 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n. I think n was the fastest and caused trouble. I selected 802.11g and the problem resolved itself. No more drop outs. Didn't notice any drop in speed. It just seemed to be incapable of a steady connection on the fastest standard.

Also most routers broadcast on 2 frequencies (2.4 and 5GHz ) turn one of them off in the router config.

Next time it happens open a command window and try:
ping 8.8.8.8
If you get a reply try:
ping google.com
If it times out you have a DNS failure, you can try:
ipconfig/flushdns
to make sure it's not a local issue.
You can also try:
tracert google.com
to see where the failure is.

Thanks all, I’ll try some of those suggestions tomorrow.
I turned off the power management settings for the card itself.
One thing I’ve spotted is that my router firewall log shows an odd entry which indicates it may be a ddos arrack
