who uses bootlace ferrules -what brand

just a diy'er , decided id like some bootlace ferrules to tidy up wiring jobs

got some r.s crimpers and ebay ferrules , theyre so thin they wont grab and just slide off with a yank , then some knipex ones at £££ they work fine first try , any other brands to look at ? would like some non insulated ones to add to my kit

I use loads at work, so usually get RS pro bags to top up my existing stock. Mainly red for me as it’s all small stuff that I tend to do (instrumentation panel wiring)

Never had a problem with RS pro branded stuff, but you can probably get equivalent quality elsewhere without the RS costs. The big branded stuff is good (cembre, tyco etc) but expensive, if you’re paying for it yourself.

CEF sell bags of them, not sure about uninsulated I’ve never used those.

PM me your address and I'll chuck some in. What sizes are you after? I use loads of red/black sized ones but the larger sizes I've had for years and never used them

All Chinese no brand from ebay or aliexpress for me, no issues with them pulling off and don't appear to be any thinner than the phoenix contact ones I have used, I did adjust the cheap chinese 6 jaw ratchet crimpers to bite a little harder though.

For screw terminals the screw will finish the job if they are a little loose but for spring clamp terminals like wagos then they need to be properly crimped.

I used to pull the plastic collar off for wiring 13amp plugs and similar but have uninsulated ones now, definitely worth having.

Lidl ferules and 4 jaw crimper pliers set about £14 currently instore in Crosshands just off the end of the M4.

No problem crimping any of the size ferules from the thinnest to the fattest . I'm also using them to put sleeves on multi strand cable for square pin 13 amp plugs ( just got 20 plugs with a built in loop handle for easier removal ) by gently pressing the sleeve out of the plastic sleeve with a block of wood , discarding the sleeve and pushing the stripped wire in from the bell end of the metal sleeve . Then crimping up and snipping off what's not needed if it is too long a crimp & re-crimping again to remove the flat made by the cutting .
