Who is cheapest for helicoil kits

I need a 7/16" bsw thread insert kit for the rear hub of the bike. The prices i have seen so far online are scandalous, there must be someone doing them for a more reasonable cost. I only need four.

John, its four studs that thread into an aluminium hub to hold on the sprocket, to me it appears to be a borderline design and so i would rather go with the bsw ones to give it as much strength as i can.

Yes but different thread angle 60 vs 55

Ronan are you trying to keep it original? I've used 7/16" Whitworth in UNC tapped holes without a problem.

I just checked and I haven't got one.
If you have to have 7/16w and don't want to spend the ~27 quid what about a
tap for £8.8 and 10 inserts for £5.5.

Ebay £3.25 for inserts and £7.9 for a tap.

Its the word "kit" as in pretty plastic box that makes them expensive Ronan. Unithread do a pack of ten for £5.94 http://www.uni-thread.com/tr_bsw_inserts_detail.php?00637-6 and the tap for £11.22 http://www.uni-thread.com/tr_bsw_taps_detail.php?00709-6 . You dont really need anything else.

Thats a lot different to the kit price.

But if you are going to helicoil them anyway in matters not a jot what the original thread angle is since you are going to drill it out, UN helicoil kits will be far cheaper.

Also a helicoil in aluminium is far stronger than aluminium threads alone.

Unless the fasteners themselves are so specialised they cannot be replaced?

No the fasteners are not that special, just a stud with a different thread on each end, the nuts that holds the sprocket on, have a coned face, and i have a new set of these studs and nuts, so don't want to make or buy new ones. I'll go with the idea of buying the tap and inserts loose rather than a kit.
