While researching to make a car ramp/lift, Hamer lift

I spotted this while i was looking for ideas to make car ramp/lift for the FTO a sit need a good bit of welding.

Anyway i come by this, not that i want to buy one and at that cost.

seems a lot of money or are they that good, anyone got one.

looked at a maxjax lift before as I like the idea of it being portable so I could wheel it out onto the drive and put away when done.

I'm not gonna bother buying a set of plans because hey the pictures show all the details you need to know but I intend to make a modification that IMHO will make them a lot safer than relying on the tube/clamp arrangement.

Hi Lift jacks are evil things. They aren't to be trusted. I had one take the skin off the end of my finger off without warning despite using it correctly. No way would I use one to lift a car never mind four of them. If just one gave way when lifting then it could tip any car off.

Looks like 4 highlifts on a four post lift frame, doesn't that mean you'd have to walk round each corner for each notch? Same to descend.. So elevate inch by inch...
That'd get old really quick.

It'd be a lot quicker with two people working it, as you could do the front up 6" and then the back up 12" then the front 12" etc etc as you wouldn't be twisting it the same as one person on their own.

Would I trust it ? No flipping chance, high lift jacks are just evil, I've used them in the past (properly) but I'd only resort to using one if it was a choice between that or nothing.

for a little over a grand u can buy a new 2 poster car lift........all u need is a 240volt supply..........yep there made in China........a mate has 2 in his working garage and no probs in 3years.....used everyday........

I'd just buy a good used ramp myself. In fact I did, a 4t fog for 500e including a roll along air jack on a moveable bridge too.
I spotted it in the free ads, and whipped round there and took it down and transported it in my sprinter by taking the front passenger seats out and sliding it right up to the bulkhead. I dont have the money that some seem to have on here to spend on new shiny things so everything is done on the cheap but right.
All I've got to do now is put enough concrete floor down to actually put it up and I can stop lying in the dirt underneath vehicles whilst looking over to the corner of the barn to see it still lying in parts waiting for that to happen. Oh how the other half lives eh maker?

Highlift jacks are a bit rocky and dangerous because they have small feet and a tendancy to tip, but there are quite a number of times I am very glad I had one knocking about. But yeah, I'd not like to go near a car up on 4 of them, although it looks like the frame of the ramp itself stops them tipping sideways, so maybe you just have to watch out for knocking your teeth out when the handle comes up too quick under load on the way down.

Thats the one i am going to build aswell. I was goig to do a wooden one but i may aswell make use of the welder i bought hadnt i.

Not going to buy plans either, dont see the need.

I agree on the HiLifts, horrible things i used them for a while when off roading and jacking up the 4x4, good hi lift to the where needed but just to........ ****.

I was looking at getting a 2 post but as it will be in front of the house, still in a tree enclosed work area they are high and i can jut see some moaning git complain about them, and i just want a quite life.

i find those too big and bulky compared to a friends seperating ramps in his garage



much easier to move and store in one corner on top of that some can be removed

if you adapted these further you could use a hydraulic jack on 4 ram sections and jack the wheels higher

A lot of car sales forecourts have something very similar to "show off" the latest bargain car.

I just watched the vid's on the site, looks a bit dangerous and unstable to me, a lot off faffing about for the same money as a normal 2 post lift, The only advantage I can see is it's a manual process not requiring an electrical power supply.

Is my version of the restoration ramps, including steel sizes (cos I phoned restoration ramps and asked em what size they were made from)

I emailed the guy who makes the 'My Lift Stand' and ask if he sold them in the UK and received a brusque reply that they didn't because of the cost of shipping (which I can understand). I also asked him what was the thickness of the top and base plates, but he declined to give me that information. It would be comparatively easy to knock up something similar, but with out the fancy spring-loaded pegs; just insert the pegs manually.

if anything like my dads old ramps and the ones at the garage there only 3mm thick steel the one at garage has dips in one ramp but plate plate on the other ramp
