Which welding rod needed pls

Hi

Could someone please advise, I need to dc tig weld stainless to a piece of mild steel... I have rods for steel and I have rods for stainless... Do I need another type for this job please... Thank you

309L is the usual choice for dissimilar metals, but if its not a critical joint you could weld it with either a mild or a stainless rod, more information would help

It's not critical work, just DIY fabrication work!

Both metals are clean.. The steel plate is 3mm thick and the stainless steel tube is 1.5 mm .. Don't want it to fall apart, but, it's not a fab part where strength is critical either..

Or 312. If the joint strength is critical this one could be suitable as it's got a higher ferrite content.

Just read your reply now yeah a 309L filler sounds the ticket for this. Easier to come by and cheaper than 312
